Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register for corporate tax in the UAE?

Yes, the UAE introduced a 9% federal corporate tax on 1 June 2023. Most businesses with a taxable income exceeding AED 375,000 are required to register with the FTA and file annual corporate tax returns. Free Zone businesses may qualify for the 0% rate, subject to meeting specific conditions. ZAMA can assess your position and handle your registration.

What is the VAT registration threshold in the UAE?

Businesses with annual taxable supplies exceeding AED 375,000 are required to register for VAT. Voluntary registration is available for businesses with taxable supplies above AED 187,500. If you are approaching either threshold, or are unsure of your position, speak to one of our advisors.

Is my Free Zone company exempt from UAE corporate tax?

Not automatically. Free Zone companies can qualify for the 0% corporate tax rate as a Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP), but this requires meeting specific conditions related to qualifying income, substance requirements, and non-mainland activities. We assess your eligibility and help you maintain compliance with the conditions.

What does FTA-registered mean and why does it matter?

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) maintains a register of authorised tax agents in the UAE. FTA-registered agents have been vetted and approved to represent clients in dealings with the FTA, including registration, filing, audits, and penalty reconsideration. Working with an FTA-registered agent provides a layer of accountability and professional protection.

Do you work with businesses across all UAE emirates?

Yes. ZAMA serves clients across all UAE emirates, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain. The majority of our services are delivered remotely, making location no barrier to professional tax, accounting, and business advisory support.
